The Japanese are famed for having the longest life expectancy in the world. Okinawa, Japan’s famous “island of longevity” consists of the worlds largest number of elderly residents who’ve aged beyond a hundred years.
Of course, many factors come into play while considering the life expectancy of the long-lived population of Okinawa, however, all these factors have something in common: a high dosage of the amino acid Taurine. The relationship between Taurine and a long life expectancy is so strong that researchers have dubbed Taurine “The nutrient responsible for the longevity of the Japanese”.
Taurine wreaps plenty of health benefits. Some of which include:

Healthy bodies are capable of producing enough Taurine. Nonetheless, most diets tend to lack a sufficient amount of taurine. In addtion, Taurine deficiency increases the health risks leading towards liver, kidney or heart diseases, and diabetes. A study that was published in November 2012, has made the bold statement that taurine is one of the most important substances in the human body. The authors concluded: “In relation to the wide distribution in the body, with the many cytoprotective properties, the enormous functional importance in cell development, nutrition and survival; Taurine would be one of the most crucial substances in the human body.”
